Combat Master Report #2 - Stage One Begins

header

Hello everyone!

This is a short informational update on the current status of the ACC revamp.

There has been quite a lot of discussion going on behind the scenes about the whole process, and we are now firmly into what we are calling “Stage 1” of the revamp.

Stage 1 - Going Live Changes

Let The Elo Die, Kill It If You Have To

The Elo system is being phased out as a component of the ACC. This means there will be a removal of the Ranked vs Unranked hall listings. Matches currently ongoing in the Ranked Halls will be allowed to finish, but new matches will be pushed towards the Unranked Halls (which will be renamed to remove the distinction).

In terms of the trophy and the Avatar of Strife title for top Elo gains, there will be a hiatus on awarding them, and when they return they will be tied differently to the ACC.

Judge Me Not

As mentioned previously we have big plans to change how the Judging process works, including allowing members to “qualify” to judge and be part of that process without it being a set position on the site you have to be appointed to.

For those who have been participating in the ACC, it is no secret that there have been some very long wait times once a match has been finished to be judged. Starting today the ACC Judge positions have been emptied, and I will be handling the judgements for matches that finish while the revamp is in process. However, This comes with some disclaimers.

  1. Scoring will largely work like comparing two fictions in a competition, or two different run-ons in a competition. I’m not going to count specifically how many times a comma was incorrectly used. The goal is a quick turnaround for results, and what hopefully is a less stressful view of being “judged”. This also means that while the ACC platform is still using a 1-5 scale, I will be using the traditional fiction 1-4 scale going forward.

  2. Feedback is going to be limited. Rather than provide a post by post ‘Good and Need to Improve On’ list, there will be general comments in the closing info of the post of what went well and where the combatants differed in scores. I know people do WANT feedback, but for the time being it's going to be very minimal, so I can continue to put main efforts into the rest of the revamp, and the other Voice projects that are going on.

Final Thoughts

There are other components of the Stage 1 process, but they are still in development. The above changes are effective immediately.

As someone who got feedback with the (let’s say 0.9 version) - it gives enough to know where you were on par and what led to the advantage being given to one over another.

Much needed changes. Good work Iddy!

And now our watch is ended.

Good changes, Xen. I’ll be one of the first to take your new judgey test.

I'm really looking forward to this, especially when it comes to running unit level ACC comps with as little fuss as with fiction events!

This. This stuff. I like this stuff. I look forward to seeing how things pan out and I look forward to getting a chance to qualify to help with the judgements. Having a larger pool of folks and a more streamlined judgement system might even see a bit of a revival of the ACC. Which I would, for one, find quite sweet.

I look forward to the future. :)

I like the changes. Especially the focus on the story, not grammar.

I look forward to taking part in this new structure.

Me likey. Will probably get involved back in the ACC as more changes are made!
