Quick Update http://www.darkjedibrotherhood.com/dbjedi/comments.asp?ID=N:5252 New Character Sheets: Beta 2 Signups *UPDATED: SIGN UPS CLOSED* http://www.darkjedibrotherhood.com/dbjedi/comments.asp?ID=N:5251
The Character Sheets are finally nearing completion. We've had one closed beta session with some good folks taking a look at the sheets and giving me good feedback as to changes needed. Thanks especially to Halc and Raken for their feedback.

In 1-2 weeks I will begin the second (and final) round of beta testing. Today I am holding sign ups. Before you sign up, here's how the testing will run:

1. I will assign you an account on the development site. You will log in over yonder. Each beta tester will have a different rank or position.

2. You will get to the character sheets and use them without any instructions from me on how to do so.

3. You will play with every page on the character sheet development site.

4. You will fill out a 2-3 page comment form and send it to me within 10 days of the Beta's start time. The comment form will have instructions for you to complete a few additional tests.

5. You will brag to your friends that you got to see the CS changes before them.

It should be an easy process, and if you do it, I'll give you a shiney of some sort (to be determined by Mr. Cake).

Here's how you sign up: Go to the comments page and tell me how awesome (or great, or godly, etc.) I am. Each new comment needs to convey that I am awesome in a better way than the comment before it. If you successfully say that I am awesome with more intensity and creativity than the person before you, you will get a spot. If I catch any sarcasm, you are disqualified.

There are 25 spots available for beta testing. The final person that signs up (aka, the person who out of everyone says I'm awesome with the most fire and intensity) will get to test the system as the Combat Master (aka, you can approve or deny the sheets the other testers are putting in).

You can only say I'm awesome once, so time it wisely. I'll keep a list updated as I check the site.

WARNING: If you sign up for beta testing and do not follow through on the responsibilities I've listed above, I will ban your account from using the character sheets until you either do some very mundane work for me or six months pass.

So...How awesome am I?
Jac

SBL Shikyo Sasuke Keibatsu Report http://www.darkjedibrotherhood.com/dbjedi/comments.asp?ID=R:11339

So, I’d like to start by announcing that Magistrate Archangel has decided to step down. He has been a valued asset to the Herald’s Office and I am grateful for his time and dedication. For his work, he has been awarded a Steel Cross. To add to this note, Praetor Tyren has been awarded an Anteian Cross for his work as a leader in CNS, as well for the work he has done thus far. Congratulations to both of them! One final award note, I got a Dark Side Scroll. Woot for me!

With all this said, I am looking for a new Magistrate. Here are my requirements:

-Must have Photoshop CS2
-Prefer BTL or lower, (no major leadership positions)
-Examples of artwork done
-I’d like to see an attempt of a lightsaber hilt done
-Ability to work under deadlines and alongside the current members of the Staff
-What lightsaber form are you? (Not which one are you studying)

May 9 will be my deadline for applications.

Finally, I’m displaying the link to the Warbanner Emblem Guide for those interested. Be advised that Numbers 1 and 11 have been taken.

I’m hired on at my job and making the money like a pimp in Atlanta. So, I want to address an issue that is dear to my heart: DragonCon. This year, I will not be attending as this is my first year in college and I want to get a feel for that. In 2009, we’re taking the place. I got some ideas on images, graphic things and such to help us campaign there. For those of you who don’t know DCon, it is one of, if not, the largest sci-fi/fantasy conventions in the U.S.

This thing is insane. There’s tons to see and do, tons or partying, and plenty of geeky chicks to create waterfalls of drool for any male geek. This is a way to meet more members, receive Scrolls of Indoctrination, and maybe something a little more zazzy. It does rock, check it out on the net: www.dragoncon.com/ . That’s all that I’ve got. Make sure those apps. Are sent in on time!

If anyone needs me, please feel free to email me or find me on IRC at #HRLD_office. Stats will be at the end of this paragraph. Peace out my homies!

Wiki Audits - Complete! http://www.darkjedibrotherhood.com/dbjedi/comments.asp?ID=N:5249 He's fast.
Famosus Quit (netsplit)
<@`Cipher> not fast enough

Alrighty then,

We have pretty much completed the Image category audits. Thanks to all who helped; they are:

GRD Jerse Remid - Robes
GRD Korroth Karn - Miscellaneous
JH Sidarace Rathden - Lightsabers
JH Fenris - Warbanners
JH Anubis Annedu Wrath - Ranks
PRT Lailoken - Screenshots
KE Timbal - Droids
DJK Korvyn - Planets
JH Taigikori Aybara - Vehicles
OT Angelo Dante - Dark Council Badges
KP Tsainetomo Keibatsu - Locations
KAP Impetus Korin-M'Nar Palpatine - Creatures
DJK Robin Hawk - Starships
SBL Shikyo Sasuke Keibatsu - Characters
JH Dock Alfar - Locations
SW Tsingtao Ming - Weapons

And thanks to the ingenuity of GRD Korroth Karn, we now have a few new Image Categories (Attire, Artifacts and Users). Still actually had two categories left - one is assigned to JH Tra'an Reith (Images-Awards) and the other is inaccessible at the moment (Images-Logos), but OPM Benevolent Taldrya Whiner (a Wiki Staff member) has taken care of it.

So again, thank you to all and congratulations on your Dark Side Scrolls (DSS)!

Now, how can we as members help the Wiki office in having to do less audits such as this? Make sure you check out all of the Image Categories at http://www.darkjedibrotherhood.com/wiki/index.php?title=Category:Image_Categories before you upload an image.

Also, make sure you have added the fairuse tag to all images as well as the image category to your image when you upload it. Please do not put notes in the "Summary box" that is for the tag and category, notes go on the actual discussion tab (Example: Image talk:Abyssal Tome.jpg is where you would put notes on who designed or created the image).

Next on our audit list is a big task consisting of all 1,473 images that have a fairuse tag - because they all don't have categories. But this will be done later next month.

Keep in mind that if you upload an image, but do not link it to a page, it is very likely it will be deleted if I notice it has not been linked after a couple of hours. We do not tolerate unused images. Even if it once was linked to a page, we are not going to store it for you, if it's unused, it's outta here.

Thank you all for your help in making the DJBWiki such a great success!]]>

The Wiki Wants You! http://www.darkjedibrotherhood.com/dbjedi/comments.asp?ID=N:5246 The Wiki is in need of Temporary Auditors.

What are the responsibilities of temp auditors?

We are in need of individuals to go through our vast library of images, making sure there are no doubles and that all images are in the right category.

Where do we find the list of Image categories?

Right here at the Wiki Image Categories. Here you will see we have a large list of categories (some are not as extensive as others).

To apply for this position, leave a comment noting what category you would like to cover - 1st come 1st served. Served? Yes, upon completing the task you will be rewarded with a Dark Side Scroll (DSS) - previously only available for the Dark Voice but now under my jurisdiction.

To complete your task you must name any files that are duplicate (both names required) as well as any misplaced images (needing to be re-assigned to a new category). Keep in mind, some images have been duplicated and misplaced by the Wiki staff so that we will not accept any reports that say everything is fine and dandy with the category.

So, reply here with a comment saying "I'll do the _____ category."

Please do not correct these yourself. Wiki staff this goes for you too.

DA Syn Kaek Report http://www.darkjedibrotherhood.com/dbjedi/comments.asp?ID=R:11304
Introduction

As I promised in my news post, I will make a lengthier (though still abbreviated) introduction here so those of you who do not know me that well can get a better understanding of who I am and where I come from. I joined the Brotherhood about 9 and a half years ago and was originally a member of Clan Aquillas (which does not exist anymore). I moved around as a regular member and battle team leader until I joined Independent House Ektrosis shortly before it became Clan Taldryan. I served as Dinaari’s second Aedile before I shifted focus towards other Emperor’s Hammer duties. I served in the TIE Corps and the Intelligence Division. In the Intelligence Division, I rose to the rank of Vice Admiral and served as Executive Director while in the TIE Corps, I finished at the rank of Colonel. I moved around various Clans and Houses in the Brotherhood while I focused on these activities though I did rise in rank to Obelisk Battlemaster and served as ProConsul for Aquillas before it was dissolved. Eventually, I was sent to the High Court of Inquisitors on charges of mutiny against then Grand Master Zoraan. I was convicted and expelled from the Emperor’s Hammer and the Brotherhood. Ironically, a month or so later, Zoraan himself rebelled against the Hammer’s leaders and was expelled. I was out of the Brotherhood for at least a year until returning a few months after the split. I have served in both Arcona and Taldryan since returning. I have served as everything from battle team leader up to ProConsul. I was appointed Master At Arms for the first time following Khan’s retirement and served in that position for just under a year. I retired due to some opportunities that opened up for me in real life but remained somewhat active in Taldryan in the interim. Sarin was kind enough to appoint me to Master At Arms again now that I have time once again. So yeah – here I am.

Considering I wrote most of the MAA policies currently in effect, you should refer to them for how to go about your daily MAA-related business. If you cannot find an answer, you should either contact me or my Praetor (Sklib) or use common sense. If you make a mistake with something, I’m not going to kill you (though I cannot speak for Sklib). I’m not here to make your life a living hell; I’m here to help you. So take advantage of it!

Staff

Sklib is going to stay as Praetor. My condolences to him. Also, Tarax was my Magistrate but I temporarily fired him just because I wanted to be mean to him. I’ll probably rehire him in a few days. See now why you never want to work for me?

Policy Updates

The first thing that you all need to be aware of, as I mentioned in my earlier news post, is that I am encouraging all leaders across the board to be somewhat more liberal with lower level merit medals (Dark Crosses, Anteian Crosses, maybe even a Steel Cross from time to time). This does not mean throw them out like candy; but you can give Dark Crosses for a few weeks worth of moderate to high activity. The recommendations still need to be high quality: but please – award people these medals!

That brings me to another significant policy change. Receiving merit medals will not significantly delay the time it takes to get promoted anymore. This means that you can give some a medal and promote them shortly thereafter (but please do not give someone a medal and ask to promote them on the same day – again, use common sense). Medals, in fact, are going to be used to help gauge when someone is actually ready for a promotion! This might not hold entirely true for very high medals (like the sacramental awards) but for the bulk of the medals a Brotherhood member receives (Grand Cross and below), this will be 100% true. Please: no more ‘saving up’ of activities/competitions/etc. to get a promotion. I don’t want to see any more DJKs with no merit medals. I will start denying these promotions in the very near future. Reward your people with medals when they deserve it – and again, use common sense. I am not going to let you give someone a DC every 2 weeks and then promote them – but giving them a DC after a few weeks of great work followed by an AC after a few more weeks or a month is ok. And then a few more weeks after that AC, you could conceivably promote them to JH or DJK. It is not an exact science (yet) but you get the general idea. And if not, email me and we will discuss it. I am shooting from the hip on this right now until Sarin, Muz, Raken and I can come up with a specific plan on how we want to make the medal/promotion systems complementary, not inhibitory.

As you can imagine, these changes necessitate other changes in policy. When we get to these, I will let you know.

Projects

Super AWOL Check: Following the completion of the IGs, Jac and I will be running a Super AWOL Check. Basically, during a Super AWOL Check, we deactivated everyone’s dossiers (the entire DJB) and you are required to log back in to reactivate it. All members at or above a certain rank (DJK I believe it is) who don’t reactivate will have their dossiers deactivated but will be able to login again at a later time. Those below DJK who do not reactivate will have their dossiers deleted. Do not hold me to those rank levels; I have to ask the Jac to be sure.

Updated Family Census: Just as I did when I became MAA the first time, we are going to be conducting a routine update of the Family Census documents. I will make an official news announcement when we carry this out but if you are in a family, be sure to have all your family documentation ready so it can be included in the family information files. There are also a lot of you out there who share a last name with one other member – this technically does not constitute a family but I am considering having you all register with me as well just so I know who you are and so I do not give you crap later if I make a mistake and think you are trying to make a family. Details will be forthcoming.

Das Uber Policy Revisions: After looking over most of the MAA related documents on the DB site, I am planning on conducting a massive revision project. This will include writing a new MAA Handbook for the Leadership Manuals (Alacrity of the Commander for those of you who like Pyralis’ completely unnecessary and superfluous use of the thesaurus), revising portions of the Codex that refer to medals and possibly even amending the Dark Covenant a bit. I will also be working on modifying a lot of Krav’s work on Equite promotions.

Competitions

For those of you who submitted to Krav’s last competition, Sklib and I will score them as soon as Sklib sends the submissions over to me. I will give out awards for them as soon as this is done.

I plan on running a competition or two once every two weeks which should be short and fun for those of you who want to participate. I am not going to start running one this week however because I want to finish up with Krav’s last competition first.

Other Stuff?

Obviously, there will eventually be more stuff going on in my office than the above projects: I do not want to bite off more than I can chew in my first report. If I need help staffing, I will make an announcement. On a side note, we hit dossier #10,000 the other day! Woohoo! But consider: that does not mean we have had 10,000 members…it just means that we have 10,000 people who have tried to be members. So keep working to retain membership and get people locked in to what the Brotherhood is all about: whoring yourself to get a complete medal set and DJM…..err wait…I mean….fun :P

Closing Remarks

In closing, you may have noticed that I suggested using common sense frequently throughout my report. As many people will tell you, common sense is not common. But I highly recommend you at least try to step your game up and think carefully before you act. Allow me to forewarn everyone: I am a very nice person and I am very tolerant. I am extremely forgiving and am almost always willing to make reasonable accommodations for people. However, I do not respond very well to demands, complaints, ad hominem attacks and people trying to go over my head to Sarin. Do not try to play political games with me: I have been doing this for almost 10 years and I will easily beat you if you try. That said, however, if you treat me with respect, I will treat you with respect and we will get along perfectly even if we disagree. If I deny or remand something you have submitted, do not take it personally: just correct what I have asked you to correct or come speak to me if you think I have made a mistake. Good things happen when you are nice to me even if you disagree with me. Thanks! Also, Chaos fails.

DJM Muz Keibatsu Sadow Report http://www.darkjedibrotherhood.com/dbjedi/comments.asp?ID=R:11295

Report time.

So, I spent the last few days looking for stuff that i could 'declassify' enough to show you cats in this report. I've got a few good shineys to show off for you.

Now, first off, we'll look at the stuff that is the furthest out. Right now (with the advent of the Wiki getting quite popular helping this out), People have resorted to one of two things to get character images for their character... 1) they bug the heck out of the few gfx people we have in the club, or 2) steal some stuff from online. now, in general, our graphics people are backed up something fierce...there's only so many and they're sorely outnumbered by the rest of the club... and on the other hand, we get really tired of seeing how half the club looks like Dante from Devil May Cry, like Sephiroth from Final Fantasy 7, the dude from the Prince of Persia games, etc.
So the solution in mind is a huge selector, broad in scope and in options for people to generate a headshot of what they think their character should look like. It's a pretty big project, and we're moving along at a pretty good clip. Here's a sample to get you an idea of how it'll look.

A fair bit closer on the horizon are some of the order perks... Launching with the new character sheets (hopefully soon), members will be able to specialize within their own orders and get specific perks special to each specialization within the order. This will unlock more sabers and robes for people to choose from, and from the feedback i've gotten so far, people are pretty excited about it. I don't want to spoil the surprise and show off all the cool stuff right now, but here's one of the sabers to sneak a peek at:

Also, I want to publically apologize to Drodik. The dude won the last 'custom robes' comp i ran, back right before i became DGM. I had honestly forgotten about the poor dude's prize for quite a long while, between all the other stuff I'd been working on, and he's been bloody patient with me. But, here's his stuff:

And now, it's time for a little rant action. Many of the members in the club express that they 'wouldn't want to be' a leader in the club... they wouldn't want to be in Sarin or my shoes... And there's a lot of reason why someone wouldn't want to... There's a lot of political garbage going on. People trying to undercut each other, sniping at each other with snarky remarks, and generally fouling up what could be a much more fun experience for most of us in this club. And that kind of thing often escalates to Sarin and myself.
This takes away from the time we have to spend with working to improve the club. Every ten minutes that i spend telling someone to quit being a jackhole is ten minutes that I'm not making something cool for everyone in the club to enjoy. And that's kind of expected of the position... but it does get waaaay out of hand, especially when it comes down to a failure to communicate, or just a bad attitude towards someone else.
I hear the term 'hated' or 'enemy' an awful lot in this club... and I just laugh. It's the bloody internet. You don't have enough experience with anyone here to truly hate anyone. You've never met them in person, and they didn't blow up your family and rape your sister. They're not your enemy. They're just another dude on the internet. If you don't like them, don't deal with them....it's really as simple as that.
If you can't help but have to deal with them, then you tell us...and if there's some sort of real problem (be it a real case of bias or discrimination or whatever), we'll take care of it. But if you're just going out of your way to encourage drama, you're just stealing from the club. Stealing time, energy, and fun from the members, and that's just garbage, and you're going to get told to cut it out.
BTW, this isn't directed at anyone in particular, but rather everyone. If you think it applies to you specifically...well then, you probably should look at what you're doing even more.
And that's my rant. :P

Kinda hard to find a job when all of your skills involve missing targets at short range...

Sometimes, prophylactics just don't seem to be enough protection.

This truck has a saber rack and an r2 unit. wtf.
